We’ve release a new version of Forecastfox. This is a minor release with a couple of simple bug fixes. The server running our forums and bug database recently crashed, so we lost all the posts and bugs related to Forecastfox. Please report any bugs you come across so we know what to fix again!

I released Forecastfox 0.9.5 last night on A.M.O. This morning we had a bug show up where boolean prefs were not being loaded correctly. I’ve fixed this issue and submitted 0.9.5.1 to the A.M.O queue. Hopefully it will not take long for that release to be approved.

Holy cow it has been a long time since I’ve posted. I’m not even sure anyone still looks at this thing anymore. Here is kind of a run down of what’s been happening for those of you who do.

Everyone in the house is sick. The boys have bronchialitis, so I’m sure that’s what Rachel and I have too. It’s really hard with Wyatt being so young and not really wanting to eat. He’ll be 3 months next week. It’s amazing how fast time goes, but it seems like I don’t remember a time before he was here.
I’ve been wanting to make some changes to this website. I would like to move away from blogger.com and host my own. I would also like to start integrating some of the cool APIs Netscape provides into the blog. Hopefully, I can start to do that in the next couple of months.

Real life has interfered with my extension development lately. I just haven’t had a chance to work on much of it. We do have a beta version of Forecastfox 0.9.5 that we are still working on, and I have started new versions of Location Navigator and Flickr Sidebar. Jon and I have been working hard on version 0.9.5. We should have a test release out soon. When we first started working on this version, it was going to be a minor upgrade for bug fixes. As I was going through the back-end code finalizing the interfaces for 1.0, I realized we need to make some big changes for scalability and performance. Those changes are what has caused this version to take so long.

Starting with Forecastfox 0.9.2 and Firefox 1.5.0.4 we have been experiencing Firefox freezing on startup. We are working on it, but haven’t been able to track down the culprite yet. If anyone out there who can help us out, it would be appreciated.

When we added icon packs to our forecastfox extension, we added a "forecastfox" javascript object to the global windows object. This was done in the exact same way the sidebar object is added. This allows us to be able to install an icon pack directly from a web site.
A site can tell if forecastfox is installed and what version is installed. I’ve decided to add a message to the top of my blog showing you what version of the extension you have installed. In the future this may change to let you know when your version is no longer supported.
